studio (experiment) is an intimate, experimental performance space located at the York Studios complex in Highland Park. We host a wide variety of events: music and theater performances, improv and poetry readings, art installations and film & music video shoots. You name it, we're probably into it.
We are constantly in search of artists looking for an alternative venue to present their work, try out new material, and take creative risks in a safe location that doesn't present the pressures of minimum draw, pay to play, noisy bar crowds, etc.
Submissions are accepted year-round. We encourage all types and genres of performers and musicians to apply. We do not limit ourselves to any genre and style and are simply seeking groundbreaking, interesting, unique work that would be nourished by this type of viewing environment.
Cover charge for the shows at studio (experiment) are determined with the artist and advertised as a "suggested donation". All door money is split 50/50 with the performers with the studio (experiment) portion helping to pay rent and expenses and keep this performance space available for artists like you to experiment in. "Passing the hat" is strongly recommended, and ALL tips go directly to the performers.
We do not take any percentage of your merchandise sales. That's YOUR stuff, and we hope you sell lots of it! :-)
As each evening hosted at studio (experiment) is a unique performance experience, we work closely with our visiting artists to make sure that your creative needs are met and you receive the time you need to express yourself and share your work in its ideal form.
Performances typically happen between the hours of 7-1opm, however, can be scheduled at any time during the day as well.
